What the document says
“the Secretary of Health and Human Services may collect registration fees from members of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network”
Section 1904 allows the fee for each transplant candidate a member places on the list described in section 372(b)(2)(A)(i) of the Public Health Service Act. The fees may be credited to the Health Systems account, to remain available until expended, to support the network's operation, and the Secretary may distribute them among the awardees as the Secretary deems appropriate. The section applies notwithstanding section 1104 of the Act.
What the document actually says
“the Secretary of Health and Human Services may collect registration fees from members of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network”
That sentence, in plain words
The Secretary may charge members a fee. They are part of the organ network.
What this is about
The network matches donated organs to patients. Members pay for each patient they add to the list. The fees pay to run the network.

How to Read This Page
The quotation is the document's own words, exactly as printed, and we check the page
number against the Act itself before publishing. The paragraph underneath is our summary,
not the document's words. So is the plain English version, which is why it sits beside the
quotation rather than replacing it.
