Signed but Not Yet Printed

Documents the President has signed and the White House has posted that the Federal Register has not printed. None of them carries a Federal Register citation or a page, the wording can still change before it is printed, and none of them is part of the indexed record on this site. Every row links to the White House posting.

In plain English

The President signs an order. The Federal Register prints it a few days later. The printed text is the one this site holds and cites.

These have not been printed yet. The White House has posted each one. So each row says only that it was signed, and links to the post.

Why These Are Kept Apart

A Federal Register citation names the volume and the page a document was printed on, and the printed text is the one the government stands behind. That citation is what lets a reader check a document rather than take this site's word for it, and every document indexed here carries one. A White House posting carries none of it. It says that a document was signed, and the wording can still change before it is printed. So these are listed on their own rather than counted with the record.

How Long the Wait Usually Runs

Of the 583 presidential documents this site holds, half were printed within 5 days of being signed. The longest wait in that record is 44 days.

When a Document Leaves This List

The day the Federal Register prints it. A printed document is not on this page: it sits with the executive orders, or with the proclamations and the rest, quoted and carrying its citation.

What Is Not Here

Nominations and appointments, which the White House posts alongside these and which are not documents of this kind. Anything posted more than 60 days ago. And not every presidential document reaches the Federal Register at all: presidential permits and national security memoranda are among the kinds that often are not printed, so a long wait is not always a wait for the printer.

The text of a document is not here either. It belongs with the printed version, and until then it is one link away.
