A nonimmigrant visa carries a $250 fee

The section requires the Secretary, on top of any other fee, to charge a fee to any alien issued a nonimmigrant visa when it is issued. For fiscal year 2025 the amount is the greater of $250 or what the Secretary sets by rule, and it rises each year with the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers, rounded down to the nearest dollar. Money not paid back goes into the general fund of the Treasury and the fee may not be waived or reduced.
