What the document says

“the Secretary of Homeland Security shall require the payment of a fee, equal to the amount specified in subsection (b), for any parolee who seeks a renewal or extension of employment authorization based on a grant of parole.”

To provide for reconciliation pursuant to title II of H. Con. Res. 14, Sec. 100010

The section requires the Secretary, on top of any other fee, to charge a fee where a parolee seeks a renewal or extension of work authorization based on a grant of parole, and makes the authorization, and any renewal or extension, good for one year or the length of the parole, whichever is shorter.

What the document actually says

“the Secretary of Homeland Security shall require the payment of a fee, equal to the amount specified in subsection (b), for any parolee who seeks a renewal or extension of employment authorization based on a grant of parole.”

To provide for reconciliation pursuant to title II of H. Con. Res. 14, Sec. 100010
That sentence, in plain words

A fee must be paid to renew a work permit. It falls on a person here on parole.

What this is about

It comes on top of other fees. The permit lasts one year at most. It ends sooner if the parole does.

The quotation is the document's own words, exactly as printed, and we check the page number against the Act itself before publishing. The paragraph underneath is our summary, not the document's words. So is the plain English version, which is why it sits beside the quotation rather than replacing it.
