What the document actually says

“Not later than one year after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, in consultation with the Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration, shall publish guidance to facilitate the use of at-home safe disposal systems for applicable drugs.”

To reauthorize certain programs that provide for opioid use disorder prevention, treatment, and recovery, and for other purposes, Sec. 111
That sentence, in plain words

The Secretary must put out advice within one year. The advice is about throwing out drugs safely at home. The drug agency helps write it.

What this is about

An at-home disposal system is a pouch or jar. It makes leftover pills useless before they go in the trash. That keeps other people from taking them.

How to Read This Page

The quotation is the document's own words, exactly as printed, and we check the page number against the Act itself before publishing. The paragraph underneath is our summary, not the document's words. So is the plain English version, which is why it sits beside the quotation rather than replacing it.
