What the document says

“in paragraph (1) (50 U.S.C. 1881 note), by striking "effective two years after" and all that follows through the period at the end and inserting "effective April 30, 2026, title VII of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 (50 U.S.C. 1881 et seq.) is repealed."”

To amend the FISA Amendments Act of 2008 to extend the authorities of title VII of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 through April 30, 2026, and for other purposes, Sec. 1

The first of two amendments in subsection (a). It amends paragraph (1) of section 403(b) of the FISA Amendments Act of 2008 (Public Law 110-261), which appears as a note to 50 U.S.C. 1881, by striking the words that set the repeal date by counting from another date and inserting a date stated outright: April 30, 2026. The words this law inserts are the ones quoted.

What the document actually says

“in paragraph (1) (50 U.S.C. 1881 note), by striking "effective two years after" and all that follows through the period at the end and inserting "effective April 30, 2026, title VII of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 (50 U.S.C. 1881 et seq.) is repealed."”

To amend the FISA Amendments Act of 2008 to extend the authorities of title VII of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 through April 30, 2026, and for other purposes, Sec. 1
That sentence, in plain words

This law crosses out the old end date. It writes in a new one. Title VII of FISA ends on April 30, 2026.

What this is about

The old rule set the end date by counting two years from another law. Now the law names the day.

How to Read This Page

The quotation is the document's own words, exactly as printed, and we check the page number against the Act itself before publishing. The paragraph underneath is our summary, not the document's words. So is the plain English version, which is why it sits beside the quotation rather than replacing it.
