Salem Maritime National Historical Park Redesignation and Boundary Study Act › Section 2

Salem Maritime National Historical Park

Section 2 · Sec. 2 ·

What this chapter is about

This part gives a place in Salem a new name. It used to be called a site. Now it is called a park. Old papers with the old name now mean the new one.

What the document says

“The Salem Maritime National Historic Site shall hereafter be known and designated as the ``Salem Maritime National Historical Park''.”

To redesignate the Salem Maritime National Historic Site as the “Salem Maritime National Historical Park”, and for other purposes, Sec. 2

Subsection (a), and the operative provision of the Act. It changes the designation of the unit in Salem, Massachusetts, from national historic site to national historical park. The Act amends no older law to do it; the sentence stands on its own.

What the document actually says

“The Salem Maritime National Historic Site shall hereafter be known and designated as the ``Salem Maritime National Historical Park''.”

To redesignate the Salem Maritime National Historic Site as the “Salem Maritime National Historical Park”, and for other purposes, Sec. 2
That sentence, in plain words

The old name is dropped. From now on the place is called a park.

What this is about

Salem is an old sea town in the east. The land there is run by the group that cares for parks. Only the name changes here.

No action is recorded against this proposal. That is not evidence that none has been taken, and nobody has yet read it against the record. See what the tracker does not yet cover.

What the document says

“Any reference to the Salem Maritime National Historic Site in any law, regulation, map, document, record, or other paper of the United States shall be deemed to be a reference to the Salem Maritime National Historical Park.”

To redesignate the Salem Maritime National Historic Site as the “Salem Maritime National Historical Park”, and for other purposes, Sec. 2

Subsection (b). It provides that a reference to the old designation in a law, regulation, map, document, record, or other paper of the United States is taken to be a reference to the new one. The subsection names no such paper and requires none to be reprinted.

What the document actually says

“Any reference to the Salem Maritime National Historic Site in any law, regulation, map, document, record, or other paper of the United States shall be deemed to be a reference to the Salem Maritime National Historical Park.”

To redesignate the Salem Maritime National Historic Site as the “Salem Maritime National Historical Park”, and for other purposes, Sec. 2
That sentence, in plain words

Old papers may still use the old name. Those words now mean the new name.

What this is about

This covers laws, rules, maps, files, and other papers of the government. The new name holds even where old words stay in place.

No action is recorded against this proposal. That is not evidence that none has been taken, and nobody has yet read it against the record. See what the tracker does not yet cover.

What This Page Covers, and What It Leaves Out

Both subsections: the redesignation itself in subsection (a), and the rule in subsection (b) for what earlier references to the site are taken to mean.

Nothing in the section is left out. The section runs to two subsections and does nothing else.

The section amends no older statute, so nothing recorded here depends on a document that is not indexed. Subsection (b) reaches papers and records of the United States that name the site, and the site has not surveyed which those are.
