Subsection (b) of section 6501 adds a new subsection (e) to section 317K of the Public Health Service Act. The Secretary, acting through the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and in consultation with the Administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration, must identify and spread best practices for preventing maternal illness and death, taking into account findings from other federal maternal health programs, at least once each fiscal year.

What the document actually says

“The Secretary, acting through the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, shall, in consultation with the Administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration, identify and disseminate to health care providers, relevant professional societies, and perinatal quality collaboratives, best practices related to preventing maternal morbidity and mortality”

Making further consolidated appropriations for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2026, and for other purposes, Sec. 6501
That sentence, in plain words

The health chief must find out what works to keep mothers alive and well. Then the chief must pass that on to doctors and to groups in the field.

What this is about

Review committees learn why deaths happen. That learning is worth little if it stays in a file. This part says it must go out at least once a year.

How to Read This Page

The quotation is the document's own words, exactly as printed, and we check the page number against the Act itself before publishing. The paragraph underneath is our summary, not the document's words. So is the plain English version, which is why it sits beside the quotation rather than replacing it.
